How to file a complaint

If you are a TikTok user in the United States, you may be entitled to the money from a class action settlement with the tech giant.

Yesterday (November 15), app users were made aware of the potential settlement money and were asked to click a link taking them from TikTok to another website to file a claim, according to News week. However, the notification was not very clear which led to confusion about it on other forms of social media.

The settlement is the result of a lawsuit against ByteDance – the company that owns TikTok – alleging that the app violated privacy laws by collecting personal data from its users without their consent. Although TikTok and ByteDance denied the allegations of wrongdoing, they agreed to settle the case for the modest sum of $ 92 million.

According to News week, this $ 92 million will cover legal fees and various administrative costs. The remainder will be paid to eligible users who submit a request for money.

How to file a claim for the TikTok class action lawsuit:

In order to file a claim for the settlement, you must first determine whether or not you qualify. The settlement is open to two groups: US citizens who accessed TikTok before September 30, 2021 and Illinois citizens who posted content to TikTok before September 30, 2021. The latter group may be eligible for up to to six times more. than the old one.

If you or your minor child meets these conditions, you can submit a complaint through the form here.

If you received a letter in the mail advising you of the settlement, you will simply need to enter the Notification ID and Confirmation Code found on the letter and submit it.

Otherwise, there is a form to fill out that requests information, including your name, address, phone number, email address, and the credentials you use on TikTok. You will also need to clarify how you are eligible for the settlement (as a U.S. citizen and TikTok user or Illinois citizen who posted on the app).

Once the form is completed, you can choose to receive your share of the payment via MasterCard, PayPal, Venmo, or paper check.

Claims must be submitted by March 1, 2022.

You can also request to opt out of the settlement or object to the terms of the settlement. The deadline for both of the above is January 31, 2022. If you choose to do nothing, you will automatically be disqualified from receiving the funds.
