From the first notes of “Together We Run”, the song that launches the new studio album of Journeyone thing is perfectly clear: the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame outfit here again.

Here’s that opening track, led by Arnel Pineda’s steady vocals and, of course, a gut-wrenching guitar solo from Schon:

Journey spent several weeks previewing Freedom along with a few pre-release tracks, ushering in its new era – with Schon, Pineda, keyboardist Jonathan Cain and bassist Randy Jackson returning to the fold after contributing to the band’s 1986 record Raised on the radio – to his legion of fans around the world.

The creative spark for Freedom came during the pandemic, as Schon explained:

“During the pandemic, there was not much to do. I spent a lot of time in my little studio at home, learning to play keyboards and looping. Some of those ideas ended up becoming songs. So it came out of nowhere.

Fans expect energetic, arena-ready anthems designed for the live stage, and there are several throughout the album. After all, Journey have long been known as a dynamic live band, whether back then with Steve Perry on lead vocals or the current iteration of the band, which debuted with Pineda in 2007 and remains as strong as ever. in concert.
