Martsch started Built to Spill in 1992 and is the only permanent member – employing an ever-changing line-up throughout the band’s career. For the uninitiated, BtS’ sound compares favorably to other 1990s guitar indie bands like Pavement, Dinosaur Jr., Sebadoh, Sonic Youth, Guided By Voices, with even a few hints of REM.

Listen to “Spiderweb” – the latest unrecorded version:

When the wind forgets your name retains many of the band’s signature sounds – swirling psychedelic guitar textures woven into melodic power-pop, blues, grunge and jam music. For this disc, Martsch collaborated with Lê Almeida and João Casaes, of the Brazilian psychedelic jazz-rock group Oruã. Martsch met the two in 2018 and they bonded over an extensive US and European tour in 2019. Lê Almeida brings some of his lo-fi and indie-pop influences, and the mix is purely organic and symbiotic.
